Message timing at based on the timing maps in the program for the given situation. The ECU assumes a base of 15. However, if you are at say, physically 17, and the ECU assumes 15, the Consult displaying 20 means you are ACTUALLY at 22.

The only way to read actual base timing is with a timing light and the bottom cover gauge.
